About Amla Powder
Amla Powder is seedless amla (Emblica officinalis), dried and ground, in a 150 g jar. Amla is the Indian gooseberry, a small, pale green, ribbed fruit that is intensely sour and astringent, and almost nobody eats it plain.
That is where the powder helps. It brings amla's sharp sourness to chutneys, raitas, batters and drinks without the work of preparing the fresh fruit.
What goes into it
- Amla (Emblica officinalis), seedless
- The only ingredient. The fruit is dried, deseeded and ground to a powder.
Taste
Sharply sour and astringent, as amla should be. A little goes a long way.
How to use
Stir a pinch into water with a little honey or jaggery.
Or add it to chutneys, raita and batters, where the sourness balances other flavours.
Serving ideas
Try it in a mint or coriander chutney, in raita, in a dosa or pancake batter, or whisked into a cooling summer drink with jaggery.
Storage
Keep it in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture, and close the pack or jar firmly after each use. Shelf life is 18 months.
