About Black Rose Tea
Black Rose Tea is a loose-leaf black tea scented with rose. The pack lists black tea, rose petals and rose flavour, nothing else. It comes as 50 g of loose leaf rather than tea bags, so you measure it yourself and can make as much or as little as you like.
Black tea is made from the leaves of Camellia sinensis that have been fully oxidised, which gives a dark leaf and a malty, robust cup. Rose adds a floral top note, so the result is a familiar black tea with a fragrant finish.
What goes into it
- Black tea
- Camellia sinensis leaf, fully oxidised. It is the base of the cup and, like all true tea, naturally contains caffeine.
- Rose petals
- Dried petals of the rose. They add fragrance and a soft floral note, and they are delicate, so they do not like furious water.
- Rose flavour
- Listed on the pack as a separate ingredient, it rounds out the rose aroma in the cup.
Taste
Expect a classic black tea body with a floral, rose-led aroma. It is gentle enough to drink plain and holds up well to a little honey, jaggery or a splash of milk if you like.
How to use
Use one level teaspoon of leaf for a 200 ml cup. Bring water to a boil, let it rest for about thirty seconds, then pour it over the leaf.
Steep for three to four minutes and strain. A shorter steep keeps the rose forward, a longer one brings out the malt.
Serving ideas
For iced rose tea, brew double strength, let it cool a little, and pour over plenty of ice. A slice of lemon or a few mint leaves work well. Served hot, it pairs with plain biscuits, shortbread and not-too-sweet cakes.
Storage
Keep it in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture, and close the pack or jar firmly after each use. Shelf life is 18 months.
