About Moringa Spice Tea

Moringa Spice Tea is a bold botanical infusion packed as 25 biodegradable tea bags in a 50 g tin. It combines moringa and hibiscus with warming spices: ginger, cinnamon, clove, black pepper and cardamom, with a little rock salt.

None of the listed ingredients is tea leaf, so this is a herbal infusion rather than a tea in the strict sense. It is deep red from the hibiscus, tart, and spiced enough to feel warming on a cold afternoon.

What goes into it

Moringa
The leaf of the drumstick tree, Moringa oleifera. It gives a green, earthy base note.
Hibiscus
Dried hibiscus flowers. They give the cup its red colour and a clean tartness.
Ginger
Pungent and warming, it provides the backbone of the spice.
Cinnamon and clove
Sweet-woody and aromatic, they round off the heat of the ginger.
Black pepper and cardamom
Pepper adds a gentle bite and cardamom a perfumed lift.
Rock salt
Used in a small amount, in the way some Indian spiced drinks include a pinch of salt.

Taste

Tart and spicy up front, with a green note underneath. If you find the pepper and ginger assertive, shorten the steep or add a little honey or jaggery.

How to use

Place one tea bag in a cup and pour over freshly boiled water.

Steep for three to five minutes, covered, then press the bag gently and remove it. Steep longer for a stronger, spicier cup.

Serving ideas

It can also be served over ice for a tart, spiced cooler. A slice of orange or a few mint leaves go well with it. Hot, it suits afternoons and evenings.

Storage

Keep it in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture, and close the pack or jar firmly after each use. Shelf life is 18 months.
