About Detox Desi Kahwa

Detox Desi Kahwa is a green tea in the kahwa style, packed as 25 biodegradable tea bags in a 50 g tin. Kahwa is a spiced tea traditionally associated with Kashmir, and this blend follows that spirit with ginger, tulsi, cinnamon, clove and cardamom, finished with black pepper and other warming spices.

The full ingredient list is green tea, ginger, tulsi, cinnamon, clove, cardamom, black pepper, pipli, licorice, nutmeg, rock salt, citric acid and asafoetida. Please refer to the pack for the full declaration.

What goes into it

Green tea
Camellia sinensis leaf that is not oxidised. It is the base of the cup and naturally contains caffeine.
Ginger and black pepper
Pungent and warming, they give the cup its spiced backbone.
Cinnamon, clove, cardamom and nutmeg
The classic sweet spices of the Indian kitchen, aromatic rather than hot.
Tulsi
Holy basil, adding a peppery, herbal note.
Pipli
Long pepper, an old Indian spice that is hotter and sweeter than black pepper.
Licorice
Known in India as mulethi, it adds a natural sweetness.
Rock salt, citric acid and asafoetida
Used in small amounts to season and balance the blend.

Taste

A warm, aromatic, spiced cup with green tea underneath. The ginger and pepper are there on purpose. If you find it too strong, shorten the steep.

How to use

Use one tea bag per cup. Let freshly boiled water rest for a minute, because green tea turns bitter in water that is too hot, then pour it over the bag.

Steep for two to three minutes, press the bag gently and remove it. Honey is optional.

Serving ideas

Kahwa is commonly served warm, after meals or on cold afternoons, often with almonds. There is no rule. Try it with dry fruit or a not-too-sweet biscuit.

Storage

Keep it in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture, and close the pack or jar firmly after each use. Shelf life is 18 months.
