About Ashwagandha Powder
Ashwagandha Powder is ashwagandha root, ground to a fine powder, in a 150 g jar. Ashwagandha is Withania somnifera, a shrub found across the drier parts of India, also called Indian ginseng or winter cherry.
The root is the part traditionally used. The Sanskrit name is commonly explained as a reference to the smell of the fresh root, which is said to resemble a horse. See our article on the root and the name for the background.
What goes into it
- Ashwagandha root (Withania somnifera)
- The only ingredient. The root is dried and ground to a fine powder.
Taste
Earthy and slightly bitter, with a faint woody smell. It is best mixed into something warm or sweet, such as warm milk, a smoothie or porridge.
How to use
Stir a small amount into warm milk or a smoothie and mix well, as the powder is fine and can clump.
Sweeten to taste with honey, jaggery or dates.
Serving ideas
Try it in a banana smoothie, oat porridge or warm spiced milk. Because the taste is strong, begin with a small amount.
